CeMAP Diploma – How to become a mortgage adviser

To become an advanced mortgage adviser candidates can take The CeMAP Diploma. The CeMAP Diploma is a professional qualification for any candidate that wants to provide UK mortgage advice and achieve a higher level qualification than the benchmark Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) required RQF level 3. The CeMAP Diploma can emphasis to potential employers and clients that you have a deeper and more thorough understanding of the mortgage market and protection with an enriched and higher level of knowledge. UK mortgages are regulated by the FCA, which requires all advisers to attain the relevant qualification before they can do so. Skills and role of a Mortgage adviser

A mortgage adviser will recommend to their clients which is the most appropriate type of mortgage in order to buy a property. Advisers must use their skills and expertise to establish client affordability and suitability from a vast range of products. Advisers must also assist their clients to protect their mortgage and property by selling the most appropriate insurance products including life cover, income protection and property insurance. Advisers can work as either an employed adviser and get paid a salary or as self-employed where they can charge a fee or receive commission from the lender and insurance company.

Advisers role:

  • Meeting with clients to discuss their current circumstances to establish affordability and suitability.
  • Select the most appropriate products from the vast range available.
  • Explain complex financial information simplistically to clients.
  • Explain the features, benefits and risks of the products recommended.

Adviser skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Honest, trustworthy and ethical.
  • Numerate.
  • Sociable and friendly.
  • Hardworking and diligent in order to keep their knowledge up to date.
  • Organised – Advisers must be organised in order to maintain adequate records in order to remain FCA compliant.

CeMAP Diploma Course Information

Professionals who want to offer mortgage advice need to meet FCA requirements. The CeMAP Diploma is a FCA recognised qualification, providing individuals with an appropriate qualification to practise. The CeMAP Diploma provides a higher level knowledge and understanding of the mortgage market that will enable candidates to set themselves apart from level 3 qualified advisers. Mortgages are essential for the majority of house purchases, as long as people need homes they will always need good advice.  The course content covers the whole scope of mortgages; including an enhanced understanding of the role of a mortgage adviser, suitability of mortgages and protection, rules and regulations that are specific to mortgages, specialist mortgage products, as well as the house buying process. The CeMAP Diploma qualification comprises of 2 modules completed over 6 months. The first module is assessed by a 90 minute multiple choice exam undertaken at a Pearson Vue test centre, these are located all over the UK.  The second module is a coursework submitted before the submission date. To get your CeMAP Diploma qualification candidates will need to register with the London Institute of Banking and Finance. The registration includes an exam fee of £525.00 and the awarding of the qualification on successful completion. The CeMAP Diploma has 3 registration periods and takes 6 months to complete as follows:

  • December registration – January start – Coursework submitted in June
  • June registration – July start – Coursework submitted in December
  • September registration – October start – Coursework submitted in March

    • CeMAP® Module 3
      • Unit 7: Assessment of Mortgage Advice and Knowledge (60 questions)

CeMAP Diploma

  • Advanced Mortgage Advice (AMA)
    • AMA part 1: Objective test – a 90-minute multiple choice exam with 50 questions (70% pass mark) – 12 months to sit the exam
      • Overview: Covers all the relevant technical areas required to deliver regulated mortgage advice. The syllabus covers the following topics:
        • The house buying process
        • The mortgage market and the economic environment
        • Property details and surveys
        • Different types of borrowers and establishing suitable advice
        • Legislation and Regulation
        • Mortgage Fees and charges
        • Mortgage Lending and specialist areas
        • Arrears and non-payment of mortgages
    • AMA part 2: Coursework: A suitability report based on a pre released Factfind. Assessed: 3 months to prepare – Submitted electronically. 50% pass mark required.
      • Overview: AMA part 2 looks at applying the knowledge gained in the previous units and testing the ability to formulate the knowledge via a suitability reportThis is based on a case study provided as a fact find given 12 weeks before the submission date. Students must formulate their recommendations via a report within the time frame and submit it online. Students must also submit a reference list if any quotes have been used.

Students will be expected to work out tax computations, affordability, make recommendations relevant to the scenario and address mistakes.  The workshop will provide the following:

Classroom based

Clarity FT offers The CeMAP Diploma fast track courses delivered over 7 days (9.30am to 5pm) split into 2 sessions. The following elements are split into the following number of days:

  • AMA part 1: Objective test – 5 day course (9.30am to 5pm)
  • AMA part 2: Coursework – 2 day course (9.30am to 5pm)

Our class based courses are delivered by industry professionals, with material, mocks and aftercare support offered, these are delivered at our Potters Bar training centre (find us here), with modern facilities and conveniently located for public transport or car travel. We have a pass guarantee that means students are with us until they pass. If they do not pass first time students can return free of charge until they have succeeded. Clarity FT can offer tutor led sessions in-house if required, however minimum numbers are required. Real Time Online (Webinar) based

Clarity FT offers web based real time training delivered via Cisco WebEx. The sessions run similar to the class based course in time frame, however students access the class remotely via a computer or a tablet. These sessions offer the ability for students to receive a full tutor led session, without the need to travel.

Distance learning

One-to-one
